Karingani Game Reserve (KGR) is recruiting a Community Relations Consultant for Gaza.
About the organization:
Karingani Game Reserve (KGR) is a large private game reserve (150,000 ha) in southern of Mozambique. We are looking for an independent consultant, passionate and experienced, to join our team and work with the communities surrounding Karingani Game Reserve.
Location: Massingir, Gaza-Mozambique
Duration of Contract: 06 months

Main tasks:
- Leadership in Community Upliftment Strategy:
- Serve as the on-the-ground leader in delivering and managing Karingani’s community upliftment strategy, focusing on neighboring areas adjoining the Karingani Game Reserve.
- Management of Community Development Strategy:
- Steward the community development strategy, translating it into actionable projects, programs, and engagements.
- Liaison and Relationship Management:
- Act as the primary liaison and relationship manager for neighboring communities, establishing productive relationships with leadership councils and community members to foster positive engagements with Karingani.
- Data Tracking and Needs Assessment:
- Collaborate with communities to consistently track local profiling data, identifying key needs and development opportunities (e.g., census profiling, education, economic, and livelihood data).
- Project Facilitation and Budget Management:
- Facilitate opportunities and manage projects and budgets between Karingani and communities, focusing on general upliftment, empowerment initiatives, and engagements related to biodiversity, wildlife protection, natural resource conservation, and climate resilience.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), monitor and collect data, evaluate community-related activities, and report findings to stakeholders to ensure transparency, accountability, and project efficacy.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and manage strong relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders, NGOs, and similar entities, to support Karingani’s community strategy and initiatives.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Establish and maintain connections with internal stakeholders and local government authorities, ensuring clear communication and coordination regarding community affairs.
- Community Communication:
- Communicate consistently and effectively with community members, providing access to relevant information and engagement opportunities both in writing and verbally.
- Advocacy and External Communication:
- Serve as the principal communicator and advocate for community-related matters to Karingani management, staff, operators, potential funders, and partners, addressing issues and seeking opportunities for support.
- Research and Engagement Opportunities:
- Independently research potential engagement opportunities, programs, and fundraising support for communities from NGOs, funders, academic institutions, and others to advance upliftment goals.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Undertake any other activities related to community relations delegated by management.
- Tasks Pertaining to Southern Expansion:
- Community Interaction and Dialogue:
- Conduct ongoing interactions with communities within the area of interest of the reserve expansion, maintaining permanent dialogue.
- Negotiation and Compensation:
- Negotiate deal points and compensation arrangements with communities within the area of interest for reserve expansion.
- Risk Identification:
- Identify and anticipate potential risks to reserve relationships with neighboring communities.
- Action Planning and Delivery:
- Plan and implement actions and programs from the reserve to communities based on previously established community obligations and commitments.
- Census Preparation:
- Prepare a comprehensive census in communities identified as areas of interest for reserve expansion, outlining their tangible and intangible assets including burial sites, sacred places, etc.
Key Deliverables for the Position after 6 Months:
- Comprehensive report on community engagement activities conducted.
- Evaluation report on the effectiveness of community upliftment projects initiated.
- Documentation of stakeholder relationships established and maintained.
- Recommendations for future community relations strategies and initiatives at Karingani Game Reserve.
- Reduction of community grievances/complaints against Karingani and fostering a more collaborative environment between the community and the reserve.
- Conclusion of programs aimed at delivering on community expectations as negotiated and agreed with the Reserve.
- Complete census of the families living in interest for reserve expansion, outlining their tangible and intangible assets including burial sites, sacred places, etc., costing for relocation and the compensations due.
- Identification of potential relocation sites for families from the area of interest for reserve expansion.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree in social sciences, business administration/economics or related area.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in community development practice, in south region, especially in the southern region of the country
- Management and/or coordination experience with stakeholder engagement.
- Fluent in Portuguese; English and Changana.
- Strong interpersonal effectiveness, communications, writing, and editing skills.
