Full-time Training Manager

International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is recruiting a Training Manager to Maputo.

Purpose of Role:

  • The Training Manager will oversee the development, contextualization, organization, delivery, and evaluation of training courses, to assist both national and international NGOs in organizational safety and crisis management, as well as personal risk mitigation and humanitarian access;
  • The successful candidate will have a strong background in NGO safety and security, be outgoing, inquisitive and detail oriented, and have significant experience building and delivering high quality curriculum along with impact monitoring;
  • He/she will have the ability to adapt training to the prevailing context;
  • The ideal candidate will above all else share INSO’s commitment to humanitarian principles;
  •  This position is based in Maputo with frequent missions to various regions of the country;
  • The Training Manager is also required to travel internationally for workshops and meetings (approx. twice a year).

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and contextualize advanced training courses, in collaboration with the Global Training and Program teams, to answer NGO training needs;
  • Facilitate training sessions in accordance with the annual working plan, these include Introduction to Safety and Security, Essentials of NGO Security Management, Advanced NGO Safety Management, Crisis Management courses, and Humanitarian Negotiations; as well as other context specific courses that will be offered across multiple regions;
  • Organize training sessions, in cooperation with the logistics, finance and program teams;
  • Manage invitations to participants, communication with partners, ensuring service delivery standards of trainings as per INSO training guides and evaluation criteria;
  • Recruit, lead, and mentor the national training assistant;
  • Archive in an orderly and accessible manner the documentation and statistical data related to training activities;
  • Report training activities internally and contribute to the donor reporting;
  • Evaluate the quality of training and the needs of partners, propose improvements in content when necessary;
  • Monitor expenses, keep budget forecasts up to date, alert the senior management team in a timely manner of possible budget over/underruns;
  • Participate in global initiatives to develop new training activities and coordinate with other INSO training teams;
  • Conduct an adequate needs assessment to identify additional training needs of NGOs within the scope of the INSO mandate;
  • Maintain a thorough and accessible database of training and training participant data.

Requirements:

  • Fluency in Portuguese and English (written and spoken);
  • Graduate level education in a relevant field;
  • A minimum of 3 years providing training in the humanitarian safety sector, specifically at the field level;
  • Experience in design and development of training curricula for NGOs;
  • Advanced Computer Skills in Microsoft Office including Power Point and Excel;
  • Demonstrable understanding of humanitarian safety practices and principles;
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and values;
  • Independent drive and ability to operate and sustainably manage staff and teams under strict systems and deadlines in a high paced environment;
  • Well-developed project and team management skills and standards;
  • Recent experience working on the humanitarian response in Mozambique, ideally in an NGO safety training role or equivalent – and demonstrable understanding of the context;
  • Ability to excel in a multicultural work environment.

Terms and Conditions:

  • 12 months renewable contract subject to funding and performance. Salary based on INSO grading scale.
